Salary: Negotiable based on experience

Terms of Employment: Permanent, Part-time /Full-Time

Main Purpose of Role

To deliver the Level 3 Safeguarding Support Officer Apprenticeship Standard through robust, high quality training and assessment methods.
Key Accountabilities
  • To deliver dynamic and engaging teaching sessions across the sector which will enable the candidate to effectively progress on their apprenticeship, generate evidence against requirements and successfully achieve EPA.
  • To develop and create training materials for online or face to face delivery using the apprenticeship standard and Pier Training delivery plans.
  • To carry out assessments of candidates in accordance with awarding body requirements and keep up to date and accurate records on OneFile.
  • To attend relevant employer and sector groups to raise the profile of the provision.
  • To support the recruitment and onboarding process for acquiring appropriate candidates in the workplace and ensure that initial assessment is carried out.
  • To ensure the review and Individual Learning Plan (ILP) is completed, updated and maintained for all candidates on your caseload.
  • To closely monitor learner progress to ensure timely completion of qualifications, apprenticeships, develop portfolios, and support the embedding of functional skills.
  • To act as an advocate in resolving problems between apprentices and employers appropriate and keep employers updated on learner progress.
  • Update learner files to reflect achievements, including the updating of tracking spreadsheets.
  • Through the review process, set and monitor training targets that effectively link to on and off-the-job training and the self-assessment and milestone tracker.
  • To ensure quality of the assessment process is maintained by working with Internal Quality Assurers and attending regular standardisation meetings.
  • To keep accurate records of learner attendance and progress which are regularly shared with the relevant employer.
  • To attend internal team and other meetings as required.
  • To understand Ofsted’s Education Inspection Framework and the importance of the key areas of delivery i.e. ‘Quality of Education.’
  • To understand the Department for Education compliance requirements for delivering apprenticeships.
  • To be committed to understanding and adhering to Pier Training’s policies and procedures.
General Duties
  • Ensure the quality standards and performance measures applying to the work of the section are met and facilitate continuous improvements in all aspects of the post.
  • Undergo any self-development and training as necessary for success in the role.
  • Incorporate into the role, the philosophy, values and behaviour stated in Pier Training mission and strategic plans.
  • Promote within Pier Training, a positive approach to security and discipline. Undertake any other responsibilities that senior management representative may from time to time require.
Qualifications and Attainments

Essential

  • Relevant qualification or equivalent to Diploma / NVQ level 3 or equivalent work level experience
  • Teaching or assessing qualifications (TAQA, D32,33, Award, Certificate or Dip in Education and Training)
  • A minimum GCSE grade 9-4 / A-C in English and maths or equivalent (Functional Skills level 2)
  • An expert knowledge of safeguarding adults and children with competency of delivering training within the sector with a minimum of two years in training / or tutoring.
  • Skilled and proficient at IT including excel and word, writing case studies, emails and reports

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level standard:  BSc (Hons) Social Work degree or similar
  • A recognised qualification in counselling
  • D34 A/V qualification
  • A teaching qualification (Cert Ed/Diploma)
Relevant Experience and Attributes
Essential

  • A minimum of 3 years working within the sector.
  • Competency of delivering training within the sector with a minimum of two years in training / or tutoring.
  • An awareness and understanding of the apprenticeship standard and assessment plan for Safeguarding Support Officer level 3
  • Experience of prioritising safeguarding concerns and recommending appropriate actions as a lead in safeguarding
  • Clear and empathetic communication with apprentices, colleagues, and external agencies.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality, data protection laws, and secure information sharing.
  • Experience in to maintaining accurate safeguarding logs, reports, and case records.
  • Curriculum planning and developing teaching materials.
  • Excellent subject knowledge.
  • Competence in evaluating apprentices’ understanding and application of safeguarding principles.
  • Strong knowledge of legislation and national policy and procedures for safeguarding children, young people and adults.
  • Experience and knowledge of statutory safeguarding processes including the handling and management of safeguarding investigations
  • Knowledge of trauma informed care, person-centred practice and needs-led approaches.
  • Experience, skills and aptitude of working creatively and proactively with a range of sector partners within the public, private, voluntary or community sector organisations.
  • Experience and competency of working with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge and implementation of evidence-based approaches and practice linked to the sector.
  • Knowledge and understanding of referral systems and mechanisms
  • Knowledge and understanding of national, regional and local policies relating to safeguarding
  • Knowledge of legal, financial, voluntary and statutory support services.
  • Excellent communicator both orally and on paper, including the ability to speak fluent English with clarity.
  • Excellent knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and how to implement policy in practice.​
  • IT-literate
    • know and understand how to use Microsoft Office applications such as SharePoint, Excel, Word and Teams
    • able to use web conferencing software for delivering training remotely, such a Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
  • Professional Development- Commitment to staying updated with safeguarding legislation and best practices.
  • A thorough understanding of differing assessment methods.
  • The ability to work with requirements of qualification and training awarding bodies.
  • Awareness of current developments in awards, qualifications and standards including Ofsted and DfE compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Good organisation and administrative abilities.
  • An enthusiasm for all aspects of 16+ education and a commitment to the well-being of students.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Desirable

  • A proven track record of developing and delivering safeguarding training across a range of private and public sectors
  • Experience in a safeguarding role as a lead Safeguarding Officer or Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Digital Literacy – Ability to use online learning platforms and digital tools for training and assessment.
  • Conflict Resolution & Mediation – Skills in handling sensitive safeguarding discussions and supporting apprentices.
  • Knowledge of Apprenticeship Standards – Understanding of apprenticeship frameworks, funding rules, and compliance.
  • Public Speaking & Presentation Skills – Confidence in delivering engaging training sessions.
  • Analytical & Research Skills – Ability to interpret safeguarding trends and contribute to audits and inspections.
