Our Strategic Intent
Our decision to delivery the Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) apprenticeship is to help to meet the growing demand for specialised care, provide a clear career progression for support workers, and offer flexible training to improve the quality of patient care in key areas such as Adult Nursing, Maternity, and Theatre. By offering these distinct pathways, the apprenticeship equips apprentices with specialised skills and knowledge relevant to diverse healthcare settings, making them more effective and versatile in supporting both patients and registered professionals.
Meeting Specific Healthcare Demands:
- Adult Nursing: This pathway is designed to train support workers for the high demand in adult care, preparing them to assist with various conditions from acute injuries to chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.
- Maternity: The maternity pathway focuses on supporting women, babies, and families during the critical phases of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, addressing a significant need for empathetic care during this transformative time.
- Theatre: This pathway prepares support workers for the perioperative environment, enabling them to assist the multi-disciplinary team in providing care for patients before, during, and after operations.
Providing a Clear Career Gateway:
- Progression to Nursing: The Level 3 HCSW apprenticeship serves as a crucial gateway to further education and career advancement, potentially leading to a degree in nursing or other healthcare professions.
- Specialised Skills: The pathways allow apprentices to develop in-depth knowledge, skills, and behaviours specific to a particular area, making them more valuable and competent support workers.
Enhancing Patient Care and Experience
- Flexible Training: The apprenticeship’s flexible structure allows for hands-on experience and expert-led training, enabling apprentices to make a significant contribution from day one.
- Improving Quality of Care: By providing specialised training, the apprenticeship helps to improve the quality of care delivered by HCSWs in various settings, ensuring that patients receive more sensitive and effective support.
